I’m off to the boundary waters up in Canada. See the picture below for the beauty of God’s creation!!
This will be the first time that I have ever been away from civilization for any length of time. No electricity, no plumbing, no store, no coke, no ice, should be interesting!! From what I’m told, the first day is a 9 mile canoe trip away from the nearest road. No wireless internet and no cell phone!!!

Don’t you hate it when you are presented with an estimate for a charge that isn’t already in PrintSmith and you aren’t sure what to charge? Or, you buy something from a vendor and you have no idea how much you want to charge or how much profit you want to make? I run into these scenarios fairly often so I created a little excel sheet to help me out.

There is one rule, only change the numbers in the Yellow boxes and the rest of the fields will be automatically calculated for you. The chart on the left is for use with BHR’s if you know them. I personally use John Stewart’s BHR Guide to get the figures so I don’t need to use the Efficiency column. The nice thing about the chart on the left is that it shows you the difference between Profit Margin and Markup.
The chart on the right is mainly for items that are outsourced. Just plug in the price and it automatically calculates prices and profit for over 15 levels of profit!
My trip to the boundary waters has been postponed because the father of our guide has come very near passing away. Please pray that our guide’s father would not have any pain and that the family would be comforted in their time of need.
People keep asking me why I’m not in Las Vegas for the conference..…
There are several reasons, and one of them is that I decided to take my entire family to a conference about Entrepreneurship this August in Nashville (it is also in Los Angeles). Many of you know that we home educate our four children and we want to make sure that they understand that becoming an adult does not mean that you get a job and go to work everyday.
For those of you out there that are interested in starting your own business or would like to get your kids interested in starting their own business, this conference is for you.

You will have the opportunity to preview the different speakers in the following weeks through conference calls. This coming Tues. night (May 2nd) is one of my favorite speakers Chris, who teaches stock options. Talk about a guy who just sees things differently.
The one thing Chris teaches that made so much sense is “Don’t start a business until you have an exit strategy.” If you build a business to sell, it’s worth more to your family than if you passed it down to them, especially with our ever changing world.
If anything, just listen in on the conversation Tues. night with your family. How often do your kids get to hear someone with his knowledge speak?
